Common Alloy

1000 Series Alloy:
99% pure aluminum with iron and silicon being the major alloying elements. Low mechanical properties with high thermal and electrical conductivity
Excellent workability and formability
Typical Alloys: 1100, 1145, and 1350
Typical uses: Foil, electrical conductors, fin stock, lighting, heat exchanger fins, appliances, chemical equipment, heat reflectors and general sheet metal work

3000 Series Alloy
Manganese is the major alloying element
General purpose alloy
Good workability and formability
Moderate strength and corrosion resistance
Typical Alloys: 3003, 3105, 3004, and 3005
Typical Uses: Sheet metal work, trailers, building products, can stock, cook ware, diamond tread plate

5000 Series Alloy
Magnesium is the major alloying element
Moderate to high strength
Good corrosion resistance
Typical alloys: 5005, 5052, 5086, and 5454
Typical Uses: Automotive and appliance trim, architectural panels, marine, vessels and tanks, truck trailers, electrical panels

Heat-Treatable

6000 Series Alloys
Silicon and magnesium in approximate proportions to form magnesium silicide, thus making them heat-treatable.
The major alloy in this series is 6061, one of the most versatile of the heat-treatable alloys.
This alloy possess good formability and corrosion resistance,
Medium strength. Alloys in this heat-treatable group may be formed in the T4 temper (solution heat-treated but not artificially aged) and then reach full T6 properties by artificial aging.
